Literacy

Early Literacy Learning in Arkansas (ELLA) is a two-year staff development process designed to assist teachers in grades K-1 in implementing instructional techniques which support emergent learners. ELLA enables teachers to enhance literacy support to students by understanding how students learn to read and by practicing the balanced literacy techniques in the classroom.

Effective Literacy for grades 2-4 (ELF) is a two (2) year professional development for teachers in grades 2-4 who are interested in implementing a balanced literacy approach to literacy instruction in their classrooms.  The first year of training consists of three (3) days of training in the summer and four (4) additional days of training during the school year.  Approximately five (5) days of  professional development is required during the second year of training.  Substitute teachers expenses are the responsibility of the school district.
